Hamletet egyszerre támadja meg a kora modernitás nagy projektuma, azaz a személyesen megélt és közvetlen hit lehetősége, valamint a királyi hatalom isteni eredetébe vetett súlyos kétely. Claudiust olyan erős és közvetlen szavakkal írja le mint a királyság gyakorlásához méltatlan embert, hogy az öreg Hamlet erőszakos halála az Isten-halállal és a megújító feltámadás lehetetlenségével válik azonossá: „S egy oly király, kihez e mostani: / Hyperion mellett szatir...”

Hamlet este asaltat de marele proiect al modernității timpurii, şi anume posibilitatea exercitării unei credințe personale și directe, precum și de o gravă îndoială cu privire la originea divină a puterii regale. Claudius este descris în cuvinte puternice și directe ca fiind nedemn de exercitarea regalității. În acest fel, moartea violentă a bătrânului Hamlet devine sinonimă cu moartea lui Dumnezeu și cu imposibilitatea învierii: „Un rege atât de bun! Ca un luceafăr / Pe lângă un satir, faţă de acesta..."

Hamlet is simultaneously assailed by the great project of early modernity, as in the possibility of personal and direct faith, as well as a grave doubt concerning the divine origin of royal power. Claudius is described in such strong and direct words as unworthy of the exercise of kingship that the violent death of old Hamlet becomes synonymous with the death of God and the impossibility of renewing resurrection: “So excellent a king, that was to this / Hyperion to a satyr...”
